On the 25th of February 2009, the Scientific Symposium “Diplomatic and consular services of the Republic of Moldova – the historical and modern perspective” took place. The event was organized by the International Relations Cathedra (International Relations, Political and Administrative Science Department), Moldova State University and Pro Marshall Center of the Republic of Moldova.

The event was dedicated to the anniversary of 650 years since the formation of the Moldovan State. The main objectives of the event consisted in informing the public opinion and develop abilities of the academia representatives in the implementation of policies and reforms in the field of diplomatic and consular services of the Republic of Moldova.

The scientific symposium united Government representatives, ambassadors and diplomatic mission representatives in Chisinau, as well as academia, members of the Academy of Science of Moldova (ASM) and institutions of higher education.

The worldwide state relations are extremely diverse, therefore it is important to understand the role of diplomatic service in the nowadays interdependent global society. Strong diplomacy is one of the best instruments for strengthening long-term future of any state. This event represented an important contribution in consolidating the national and international security – that requires the development of solid diplomatic relations; generate discussions on the topic; increase attention on issues and trends in the current diplomatic activity in academic and political sphere, and also among state officials and representatives of the media for taking the best international practices in the field.
